Arnout Lems is an experienced opera and music theatre performer, specialised in contemporary theatre.
Arnout Lems completed a master as a baritone at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. He soon specialised in contemporary music theatre, but also performs Schumann on electric guitar, for example. He performed with Silbersee, Noord-Nederlands Orkest, Klangart Berlin, Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart, HYOID voices, Slagwerk Den Haag, AskoSchönberg and Duda Paiva Company. He took part in many new operas and music theatre performances with Silbersee, Muziektheater Transparant, Hollands Diep and Holland Opera. In Ahmedabad, India, he sang the title role in a Dutch-Indian adaptation of Monteverdi’s l’Orfeo.
Since 2017, Arnout performed in and co-created three productions by Nicole Beutler Projects, among which the acclaimed 8:Metamorphosis, which won several awards.
With Holland Opera, he recently performed in Bluebeard and in Reinaert de V, in which he made his debute as a puppeteer.
He made his debut as a director in 2011 with the widely acclaimed Monteverdish, a crossover of Monteverdi and urban dance. Operas he directed include Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro and Blow’s Venus and Adonis.
He worked as an artistic advisor and co-director for dance collective ISH.
Arnout’s voice is a high baritone. His aim as a performer is to combine and transform classical technique into contemporary theatre.
